In His Own Words

“I believe that every woman should have access to safe, legal, affordable reproductive healthcare services, and decisions about what happens within a woman's body should only be made by that woman and her doctor, not the government. Having served in nations where abortions are illegal, I have seen first-hand how abortion bans increase maternal mortality, literally killing women. Texas already has the highest rate of illegal abortions in the country, and a very high maternal mortality rate (3 times higher among African-American women). Additional restrictions don't stop abortions, but they stop safe abortions and kill women.” 1
"Climate change is not a hoax. It is our defining global challenge, and threatens our economy and our national security. The Houston area has seen five 500-year floods in five years, and extreme weather patterns across the globe are intensifying." 2
"Gun violence is a public health crisis and Congress has failed to do its job to keep families safe. We must respect the second amendment of the Constitution that protects law-abiding gun owners’ ability to purchase firearms while dealing with the reality that gun violence and mass shootings have created an atmosphere of terror for Texas children and families." 3
