JAC Statement on the Tweet from Rep. Ilhan Omar

JAC STATEMENT

The recent tweet from Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) was blatantly anti-Semitic and offensive. With religious and racial hatred a growing problem in this country,
Omar’s rhetoric further incites anti-Semitism. It is counterproductive to bridging our country’s dangerous divide.

Omar has had previous anti-Semitic tweets. She has apologized in the past, as she did today. We hope she has finally learned and that there will be no more future offensive statements. We must be resolute in our commitment to denounce and fight every form of anti-Semitism — regardless of that individual’s party affiliation. We can have differences in policies and ideas, but religious groups must never be a target of that discourse.

At JAC we will continue to further religious tolerance in Congress and around the country, while also working to strengthen the bipartisan U.S.-Israel relationship.

We thought you’d be interested in some of the comments our friends, especially the freshmen Representatives, have made condemning Omar.
