Beyond the Core

What is JAC's Position?

While JAC has three core issues central to our platform, there are other issues that we care deeply about. These issues are important to the Jewish community, to our nation, and to the world at large. We call these issues "Beyond the Core."

Environment
JAC closely follows environmental issues. As Jewish Americans, we don't want the poor environmental decisions of today to negatively affect our children's futures. Responsible energy production includes reliable and affordable alternative and renewable energy resources. JAC is closely following the proposed development of the Keystone XL pipeline and its environmental impact on land, water, and air quality, as well as monitoring recent threats to the EPA and Clean Water Act.

Equal Rights
JAC believes strongly that equal rights are human rights. No one should be discriminated against due to gender, religion, sexual preference, or race. Whether the issues are paycheck fairness, marriage equality, or access to healthcare or education, JAC supports equal rights for all.

Gun Violence Prevention
We do not advocate the elimination of private gun ownership, rather, legislation that ensures responsible gun ownership. We support background checks, the revocation of gun ownership in cases of domestic violence, a limit on magazine size, a limit on those guns generally recognized as "assault weapons," and closing gun show loopholes regarding background checks and ownership.

Immigration Reform
As members of the Jewish community, we realize the importance and complications involved in our immigration policy. Many of our own families immigrated to the United States to escape persecution, to find religious freedom and to make better lives for themselves and their children. JAC believes that the path to citizenship must be made simpler and less burdensome for those who choose to make this country their home.

Voting Rights
Recent attacks on the Voting Rights Act, implementation of restrictive and potentially unconstitutional voting laws, and requiring voters to show ID to receive ballots are tools to disenfranchise large swaths of the population. These attempts subvert the concept of a democratically elected government. JAC is deeply concerned about the recent attacks on voting rights and believes that all eligible citizens have a right and responsibility to cast their vote without impediments.
