What's On Our Mind 11-19-2021

The passage of President Joe Biden’s infrastructure bill, which had bipartisan support, does give our country something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, during an extremely challenging time. As he said, it was” a monumental step forward as a nation.” In another historic achievement, the House passed the President's Build Back Better Act early this morning and it now moves onto the Senate.

JAC-candidates helped to push the bill to the finish line, including Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA), whom we learned will be retiring. These Members of Congress have always put country first over politics as they worked tirelessly to advance JAC’s agenda and protect the issues we care about. We are thankful for their years of public service.

Rep. Speier has been a fierce champion of women’s issues. She has also been a fearless fighter for women’s equality and LGBTQ rights, as well as gun violence prevention.

Sen. Leahy, a leading environmentalist in the Senate, successfully opposed attempts to allow oil and gas exploration in wildlife refuges in the U.S., including the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

While our democracy has been tried and tested, there are many principled Members of Congress, like Sen. Leahy and Rep. Speier. They will always put country over politics and stand up to those that choose to use violence and hate speech to divide. The censure of Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) shows that the democratic process in the House still works under the leadership of the Democrats— and that is why we must ensure that we retain our Democratic majority.

This is a challenging time for our nation. By working together to elect JAC candidates we can continue to move this country ahead.

We hope as you gather with your family, you can find a sense of gratitude during these tumultuous times. We are grateful to YOU for your support of JAC and our candidates. This support enables us to continue our important work to elect candidates that care about good government and our rights.

Wishing you and your family a meaningful and safe Thanksgiving.

We will return with our weekly EZ read on Dec. 3rd.
