JAC's Top Races for 2024

These are the critical races JAC is supporting to maintain a strong House and Senate that will support our issues.

Candidates for the U.S. Senate

Rep. Colin Allred (D-TX)
Colin flipped his district blue in 2018, and has announced he will challenge GOP-incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz for his seat in 2024. As the first Member of Congress to take paid paternity leave, he is pushing for it nationally. On the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Colin stands strong on Israel’s right to exist and self-defense. Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI)
 
Tammy Baldwin has a strong connection to the State of Israel, growing up in a Jewish home and visiting for the first time at the age of 6. Since being elected to the U.S. Senate, she has supported a strong U.S.-Israel relationship. She is also a fierce advocate for women's reproductive rights, sponsoring several influential bills that have earned her 100% ratings from both NARAL Pro-Choice America and Planned Parenthood. Click here to learn more about Tammy Baldwin.
Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH)
Sherrod Brown has a perfect record on JAC issues. He won his Senate seat in 2006 with one of the largest margins over an incumbent in U.S. history. During his tenure in the U.S. Senate, and before that in the U.S. Congress, he has worked hard to protect women's reproductive rights and to strengthen the U.S.-Israel relationship. Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA)
Bob Casey is a longtime JAC friend and has been a strong advocate for crucial U.S.-Israel relations, vigorously supporting the survival and security of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state. He cosponsored the Combatting BDS Act of 2016, and has signed onto various policies to pressure other countries in the Middle East to end their boycotts of Israel. Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA)
 
Tim Kaine served for four years as the governor of Virginia before being elected to the U.S. Senate in 2011. He is one of just 20 Americans to serve as Mayor, Governor, and Senator of their community. Since his election to the Senate, Senator Kaine has been a strong supporter of JAC's issues, cosponsoring legislation to reaffirm U.S.-Israel relations and activities, as well as holding 100% rating from both NARAL Pro-Choice America and Planned ParenthoodClick here for more information about Tim. Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV)
Jacky Rosen was the first Jewish woman to win her Congressional race to represent Nevada's 3rd district. She is now in the Senate, having defeated one of the most anti-choice Senators. She served as former president of Nevada's largest synagogue. Jacky strongly believes that women's health care decisions are personal, and that government has no place in deciding what's best for a woman and her family. Click here for more information about Jacky Rosen.
Rep. Elissa Slotkin

Prior to her election to the house, Elissa Slotkin spent her career in Defense, working as Assistant Defense Secretary from 2015-2017 following a 5-year career in the CIA.  In that time Elissa gained experience facilitating Israeli defense policy, reaffirming her support for Israel.  Elissa even worked as a writer for a feminist center in Haifa, which reaffirmed her commitment to women’s reproductive rights and gained her an endorsement by Emily’s List. Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT)
Jon Tester has been a great friend to JAC, showing strong support and committment to the U.S.-Israel relationship, including introducing a resolution to strengthen the U.S.-Israel economic relationship. He has been a passionate advocate for women's reproductive rights, including cosponsoring the Women's Health Protection Act. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI)
 
Sheldon Whitehouse has been a strong JAC ally, supporting our core issues throughout his time in the Senate. He has vigorously supported a strong relationship with Israel in a variety of areas that benefit both the U.S. and Israel. Candidates for U.S. House of Representatives
 
Rep. Becca Ballint  
VT-AL
Rep. Becca Balint became the first woman to represent Vermont in Congress in 2022. Prior to Congress, she served as President Pro Tempore of the Vermont State Senate. She is a strong supporter of JAC's issues and believes that Congress can do great things to support our country, including passing an assault weapons ban and codifying reproductive rights.  Click here for more about Becca Ballint.
Representative Shontel Brown

Representative Shontel Brown was elected in a special election to replace former Rep. Marcia Fudge following her appointment by President Biden to the Cabinet. Prior to election to Congress, she was a dedicated member of the Cuyahoga County Council, where she served for six years. During that time, she dedicated herself to the wellbeing, economic and otherwise, of her constituents – championing voting rights initiatives, engaging young people in political activism via her High School engagement initiatives, and funding Health and Human Service programs focusing on supporting seniors. Rep. Yadira Caraveo

Representative Yadira Caraveo became Colorado's first Latina Congressional Representative in 2022, after serving in the State House. She is a strong supporter of JAC's issues, believing we must protect access to reproductive rights across the nation to protect the freedom of all women. Rep. Sean Casten
IL-6
Representative Casten is a respected scientist, clean energy advocate, and entrepreneur who has dedicated his career to building businesses that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Casten ran for Illinois’s 6th congressional district after criticizing both President Trump and his Republican opponent’s environmental policies that put millions of people’s lives and health at risk. Casten has promised to fight for every woman’s right to make her own reproductive health care decisions, and for affordable healthcare access for all Americans. Click here for more about Sean Casten.
Rep. Angie Craig
MN-2
Elected to Congress in 2018, Angie Craig began her career as a newspaper reporter, and later worked her way up over 20 years to lead a Minnesota manufacturer with over 16,000 employees. There she started 'the Women in Business' program to support and mentor women in their career choices. She believes no one should come between a woman and her doctor when making medical decisions, including contraception and reproductive freedom. She is a strong supporter of JAC's issues. Rep. Sharice Davids

Representative Sharice Davids is a strong advocate for women’s reproductive health and justice. She is supported by NARAL pro-choice America and EMILY’s list. Davids is cosponsoring a bill opposing the delegitimization of Israel through the BDS movement, and went on a trip to Israel in August 2019. Sharice Davids is one of two Native American women to be elected to the House of Representatives, as well as Kansas’s first gay representative in the House who is committed to fighting for the rights of the LGBTQ community. Rep. Madeleine Dean

Representative Madeleine Dean transitioned from State Representative to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018. She brought with her a strong voice for JAC's values to Washington. She pledged her unequivocal support to women in the fight for reproductive rights. She also stands with Israel and vows to vote for legislation that secures the safety of Israel. Rep. Lizzie Fletcher

A native of Houston, Lizzie Fletcher began her career in law in 2006. Her work led to recognition as one of the Best Lawyers in America. A co-founder of Planned Parenthood Young Leaders, she helped recruit a new generation of leaders to fight for reproductive rights. She has also worked to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline, and help young people find their voices through dance and writing. She is a strong advocate for JAC's issues. Rep. Bill Foster

Rep. Bill Foster was elected to Congress in 2008 and served the IL-14 District until boundaries were redrawn in 2011. The only 'rocket scientist' in Congress, he worked in particle physics for over 25 years prior to his election. He is a strong believer in JAC's issues and vows to protect reproductive rights, combat gun violence, and more. Adam Frisch

Adam Frisch is running to unseat MAGA GOP Rep. Lauren Bobert. He came close in 2022, and is determined to do so in 2024. He is a former city councilman in Colorado and has a long history of public service and fiscal responsibility. He is a strong believer in JAC's issues and vows to protect reproductive rights, combat gun violence, and more. Rep. Josh Gottheimer
NJ-5
Representative Josh Gottheimer entered the political scene as the youngest speech writer in history for President Bill Clinton’s White House.  Since then Josh has been a key ally on JAC issues. He strongly supports Israel’s continued survival and strong relationship with the U.S. Josh has been unequivocally pro-choice, supporting safe access to all services at Planned Parenthood. Rep. Steven Horsford

In 2018, Representative Steven Horsford returned to the seat he held from 2013-2015. He lost his father to gun violence when he was young, and made it a mission of his that people feel safe from gun violence in our communities and schools. He is also a strong proponent of women's reproductive rights, strongly believes in Israel's right to exist and supports a continued vibrant U.S.-Israel relationship. Rep. Chrissy Houlahan

Elected to Congress in 2018, Representative Chrissy Houlahan is a former Air Force officer and daughter of a Holocaust survivor, whose ideals align with JAC’s core beliefs and make her a powerful voice in Washington. Her cousin-in law was one of the EMTs responding to the Sandy Hook tragedy, so she has a personal connection to the gun violence epidemic. Rep. Jeff Jackson

Representative Jeff Jackson was elected to Congress in 2022 to represent NC-14, after serving in the State Senate since 2014. Prior to serving elected office, he served as a Major in the Army National Guard; he is currently in his 19th year of military service, following serving in Afghanistan. He is a strong defender of JAC's issues, has led the fight against gerrymandering in NC, and worked to defeat discriminatory legislation. Blue Wave: Meet Andy Kim, the 36-year-old former Obama aide running to  protect healthcare in New Jersey

Representative Andy Kim was elected to Congress in 2018. A proud son of Korean immigrants, Andy began his career as a public servant under both Democrats and Republicans. He served at USAID, the Pentagon, the State Department, the White House National Security Council and in Afghanistan as an advisor to Generals Petraeus and Allen. Representative Greg Landsman was elected to Congress in 2022. He is a public school teacher and advocate. He was appointed Ohio Director of FaithBased & Community Initiatives. He was elected to the Cincinatti City Council in 2017. Rep. Susie Lee

Representative Susie Lee was a committed community leader in Las Vegas for the past 20 years, prior to being elected to Congress. She has served as the president of Communities in Schools of Nevada (CIS), the leading organization for school dropout prevention. She is the Founding Director of After-School All-Stars and is dedicated to improving the public education system. Susie is devoted to the fight for pay equality and immigration reform is a top priority for her. She is an advocate for national background check legislation and gun control. Rep. Seth Magaziner

Representative Seth Magaziner was elected to Congress in 2022. Before serving in Congress, he served as Rhode Island's General Treasurer since 2015, and worked as Chair of the state's school building task force, launched innovative clean energy financing programs, and helped pass the Reproductive Privacy Act in 2019, codifying the protections of Roe v Wade into state law. He is a strong advocate for JAC's issues. Rep. Lucy McBath

Rep. Lucy McBath was elected to represent Georgia's 6th district in 2018, defeating incumbent GOP Rep. Karen Handel. She worked for 30 years as a flight attendant until her son, Jordan Davis, was shot and killed in what has become known as the "loud music shooting." Following his death, she devoted her life to activism and preventing other families from experiencing what hers did. She is a fierce supporter of women's reproductive freedom and JAC's issues. Representative Frank Mrvan was elected to Congress in 2020. Before serving in Congress, Frank was the North Township Trustee for 15 years, where he learned the value of being a trusted resource and how to help people when they need it. Representative Wiley Nickel was elected to Congress in 2022. Prior to his election to Congress, he served as a NC State Senator. Rep. Mary Peltola
AK-AL
Representative Mary Peltola was elected to Congress in 2022 in a special general election to fill the seat of long-time incumbent Don Young - defeating Sarah Palin in the process. She is the first Alaska Native member of Congress and the first woman to represent Alaska in Congress. Prior to her election to Congress, she served in the Alaska House of Representatives, served as a judge on the Orutsaramiut Native Council's tribal court. She is a strong supporter of JAC's issues. Click here for more information about Mary Peltola.
Rep. Brittany Pettersen

Representative Brittany Pettersen ran for the open seat of retiring Representative Perlmutter in 2022. Prior to running for Congress she served in the Colorado State House of Representatives as the Majority Whip, and later in the State Senate. She also worked in the nonprofit sector working to increase youth participation in politics and the government process. She is a strong supporter of JAC's issues. J. Aaron Regunberg

Aaron Regunberg is running for the seat vacated by former Representative David Cicilline. A former State Representative for Rhode Island, he is a strong proponent o JAC's issues. He began his career as a community organizer in Providence, where he founded the Providence Student Union, and education justice organization supporting young people fighting for better public schools.  Click here for more about Aaron Regunberg.
Rep. Deborah Ross

Representative Deborah Ross was elected to Congress in 2020. A civil rights advocate, clean energy champion, and lawyer, she grew up with the strong belief that with opportunity comes responsibility, and that through public service she could help others and make a difference. She began her career in public service when she was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives in 2002, where she served for over 10 years. She was noted for her ability to work across the aisle. As a civil rights lawyer, she fought for fairness and justice, working to pass the South's first anti-racial profiling law and juvenile justice reform. She is a strong advocate for JAC's issues. Rep. Pat Ryan

Representative Pat Ryan was elected to Congress in 2022. He is a decorated combat veteran and small business owner, who also held the position of County Executive in Ulster County. Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon

Elected to Congress in 2018, Representative Mary Gay Scanlon, a former attorney, understands the importance of legal precedence. She has cited many important landmark Supreme Court cases to support JAC’s core ideals of protecting women’s reproductive rights and the separation of church and state. Rep. Brad Schneider

Representative Brad Schneider has been an ally to Israel and to pro-choice Americans, being a fierce advocate for women’s reproductive freedom throughout his time in Congress.  Brad is an active member of pro-Israel communities, being a strong supporter of the JUF and with it, Israel.  Brad is a strong advocate of the LGBTQ+ community and has been instrumental in the drafting of progressive and sensical gun legislation. Representative Hillary Scholten was elected to Congress in 2022, becoming the first Democrat to represent her district since 1982. Prior to serving in Congress, she was a judicial law clerk and attorney adviser for the Board of Immigration and Appeals, and later a staff attorney for the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center. Representative Kim Schrier was elected to Congress in 2018, and is the first and only pediatrician currently serving in Congress. Her father, an engineer, instilled in her a love for science, which led her to a degree in Astrophysics at UC Berkley, and then later to medical school. Rep. Mikie Sherrill

A Navy pilot and former federal prosecutor, Representative Mikie Sherill ran for Congress in an effort to bring new leadership to Washington that will fight for a positive future in America.  Mikie is committed to supporting Israel’s relationship with the U.S. and will fight for Roe V. Rep. Abigail Spanberger
VA-7
Rep. Abigail Spanberger is a former CIA operative who brings a special viewpoint to politics. As a former federal agent, she carried a gun with her to work. She promotes responsible gun ownership, while also promoting common sense gun legislation. She also has vast experience in foreign affairs. Rep. Greg Stanton

Rep. Greg Stanton is the former Mayor of Phoenix who spent his term forging better relationships with Israel and women. He traveled to Israel multiple times and forged an economic partnership between Israel and Phoenix that has led to 13 years of economic and cultural exchange. Domestically, he has worked closely with women to help better their access to reproductive and healthcare services. Rep. Haley Stevens

Born and raised in the Detroit area, Rep. Stevens was elected to Congress in 2018 to represent Michigan's 11th district. During the Great Recession, she served as chief of staff on the Auto Rescue, which helped return the auto industry to financial stability. After working in the Obama Administration, she worked in a manufacturing research lab. She is a strong proponent of JAC's issues, working to protect women's reproductive rights and more. Rep. Emilia Sykes

Representative Emilia Sykes was elected in 2022 to Congress. Prior to serving the OH-13th district, she served eight years in the OH House of Representatives, with 3 years as the Minority Leader. Before serving in elected office, she served as the Administrative Staff Advisor at the Summit County Fiscal Office and as a Law Clerk to the Chief Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Northern District of Georgia. Rep. Lauren Underwood

Representative Lauren Underwood was elected to Congress in 2018 by defeating a four-term GOP incumbent. She was the first person of color, first woman, and first millennial elected to represent her district and became the youngest Black woman to serve in Congress. Rep. Jennifer Wexton

Rep. Jennifer Wexton served almost two decades, as a prosecutor, an advocate for children, and as a legislator focusing on issues of concern to families. In Congress, Jennifer is a true advocate for women. She supports legislation that expands women’s access to quality, affordable healthcare, family planning services, and contraception, establishes paid family and medical leave programs, ends violence against women, promotes women’s involvement in STEM and political fields, and ratifies the Equal Rights Amendment in the U.S. Constitution. Rep. Susan Wild

Representative Susan Wild received her B.A. from American University and her J.D. from George Washington University, and went on to work as an attorney. She supports a strong U.S.- Israel relationship and a two-state solution. She also is committed to fighting for a woman’s right to choose. In addition to her support for women’s rights and for Israel, she would like to see change regarding the gun violence plaguing our nation.
